Requirements for registration
The qualifications, experience and insurance requirements for registration in each category are listed in the Ministerial Determination No. S79 PDF (265.9 KB) gazetted on 1 October 2026.

Renewals
Although the board sends out renewal notices as a courtesy, it is your responsibility to ensure that your registration is renewed before its expiry date.
Renewal registrations must be lodged at least 2 months before your registration expires to give the board time to process them.
Note, if you lodge your complete renewal application prior to the expiry date, your registration will continue in force until the Board has made a determination of the renewal application. For further information on continuity of registration you can refer to section 24EAA of the Building Act 1993.

New registrations
Mutual recognition - individuals only
If you are currently registered in another state, you may apply for Northern Territory (NT) registration in the equivalent category using the form below. Companies cannot apply using mutual recognition. In order to register a company, you must first register an individual.

Application lodgement
Registration applications can be lodged at the Territory Business Centre (TBC) in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek or Alice Springs. TBC staff will accept and receipt your application.
If you wish to speak to a Licensing officer please call 1800 193 111, prompt 2.
In addition to lodging in person at a TBC, application forms can be scanned and emailed or sent by mail to GPO Box 9800, Darwin, NT, 0801. Full lodgement details are recorded on application forms.
